The Mind Hacker Werner Reiterer
Werner Reiterer's interventions in the exhibition space are unexpected and irritating, but at the same time humorous and ironic. When historical wooden sculptures of saints or angels hanging from the ceiling suddenly show the artist's portrait, when the entire exhibition space - triggered by a scream - begins to "breathe" laboriously, then the perception and expectations of visitors are immediately challenged: they are transformed from passive viewers into an essential part of the exhibition.
In his drawings, installations and sculptural works, Werner Reiterer addresses the social relationship between the individual and the collective as well as that of people to things. Behind his conceptual works lies an intensive engagement with philosophical, social and scientific topics, which culminate in the simple yet comprehensive question "Who are we?"
Drawing occupies a special place in Werner Reiterer's oeuvre. A key part of the exhibition The Mind Hacker will therefore be a room-within-a-room as a special, installation setting in which around 80 of the artist's drawings will be presented.
The extensive series of Drawn Exhibitions forms the conceptual basis for all of the artist's projects, both those realized and those not realized, and thus provides insight into the artist's work development, which now spans several decades.
